My 14th Birthday

I turned 14 today and am celebrating the day by spending the Long Weekend up at the cabin with Dad, Mom, and Oliver.  It’s been fun.

I was surprised with an early birthday present.  Mom and Dad gave me a Pentax K-x DSLR this morning.  It was Dad’s old camera and instead of trading it in on his K-30, he set it aside for me.

Along with the camera, I got a 18-55mm lens that came with the camera, a really sharp manual 50mm lens, a Pentax 100-300 lens, and a Takumar-F 28-80mm manual lens.  Dad says the Takumar lens kind of sucks but it is a macro for me to learn with.

To carry it all in, I was also given a new Roots sling camera bag.  Inside it was a Eneloop battery chargers and some amazing Eneloop XX batteries.

They gave it to me on Saturday morning after I had gone for a walk with Oliver.  After that we went to Strasbourg where grabbed some things that Mom forgot, grabbed a bite to eat at The Burger Barn (Dad says that by law, every town in Saskatchewan has to have a restaurant named The Burger Barn) and then went and explored some abandoned farm buildings.

We also wandered north to the marina where I tried in vain to get a good shot of some mallard ducks that were just out of my range.  I guess I’ll need to save up for a Sigma 150-500 or the Pentax 560mm lens.  Of course sitting in the tall grass had me covered in ticks.  That wasn’t my best move of the weekend.

Today, I woke up to Oliver’s gift for me.  He gave me Assassin’s Creed III.  I have the first two.  It will fun to play during the Revolutionary War.

After several hours of trying to free the United States from the British, I had a great steak dinner and chocolate cake.
